Can I drive the Byway in one day?
You can drive the 87-mile loop in one day, but you would miss out on many interesting places to stop along the route. We recommend at least three days so that you can spend time at museums, parks, restaurants, shops, wineries, etc.

Is the Byway marked so I know where to go?
Yes, there are Cayuga Lake Scenic Byway signs located along the route in approximately 10-mile intervals and at intersections to let you know where to turn.

Is there a charge to drive the Byway?
No charge. The roads that make up the Byway are New York State highways. There are no tolls on these roads.

Should I drive the Byway in a particular direction?
No. You can enter the Byway at any point you like and travel in any direction you want, it’s a loop.

Are there any specific itineraries I can follow on the Byway?
Yes. The Byway currently hosts a Geocaching trail, Blueway Trail, Birding Trail, and the KIDS CAYUGA LAKE program for families.

Is the Cayuga Lake Scenic Byway the same as the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail?
No, we are different organizations with different missions although we share the same roads.

Can I bicycle the Byway?
Yes, you can bicycle the Byway. The majority of the route has wide road shoulders. The exception to this is in the City of Ithaca and along the southern portion of N.Y.S. Route 89 heading north out of the City of Ithaca. But, you have the option of riding on the Cayuga Waterfront Trail and the Black Diamond Trail to avoid traffic in the city.
