John Harris Park to Cayuga Lake State Park

Heading north, this trip follows the east shore of Cayuga Lake to the mouth of the Seneca River at C-S Canal Lock 1, aka Mud Lock; then heading west, the trip continues along the extensive marshes under the railroad causeway before, turning southwest following the western shoreline to Cayuga Lake State Park.

Description of Paddling Experience

The north end of Cayuga Lake has shallow, calm waters and large marshlands along the northwestern edge, an area which is renowned for great bird watching and observing other wildlife.

Other Options

Paddlers can create a 6 mile loop by crossing the lake at the State Park to head back. Alternatively, paddlers can travel through the Lock into the Seneca River 1.5 miles up to the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge landing dock.
