Nature’s Magnificent Aerial Anglers
As you travel the Byway this year, take some time to visit the many sites around Cayuga Lake where you can experience the majesty of Cayuga Lake’s aerial anglers – the bald eagle and osprey.
The Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge is a great starting point at the north end of the lake to view bald eagle’s nests. Our nation’s bird has been nesting at the refuge since 1987. The refuge is currently home to six active bald eagle nests. Visit the Refuge’s website to get the locations of the active nests. Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge
At the south end, visit Allan H. Treman State Marine Park where you can observe an osprey nest and learn more about the return of this amazing bird of prey and how to tell the difference between the osprey and bald eagle. Also, check out the dedicated website that is tracking all the osprey nest site locations around the Cayuga Lake Basin. Cayuga Lake Osprey Map« Back to Along the Byway
